The opening up of the roof area to create space and light, and the many clean flat surfaces, had unfortunately resulted in a noisy hall when large groups were present. This has now been resolved by the installation of a Swedish acoustic product, the Terraco Ecolife Ambient Acoustic System, which has unique sound controlling properties.
The system consists of acoustic mineral fibreboards overlaid with a high performance acoustic plaster basecoat and a decorative acoustic finishing plaster, both of which are sprayed on. The acoustic basecoat is produced using 80% recycled materials, and incorporates an expanded light weight aggregate containing glass microspheres produced using recycled glass. All Terraco’s products are produced in “green” environmentally friendly production facilities, and their acoustic plasters are water-based, non-hazardous and non-combustible.
The system is used in a wide range of settings such as theatres, lecture halls, etc., and the first installation in the UK was for the Bank of England. Other installations can be viewed here. Music legends who have a Terraco Acoustic System installed in their studios include Mark Knofler of Dire Straits and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA.
